Volume 6: A Simple Formula for GrowthI identify as a lifelong learner and someone with a growth mindset. I find a lot of joy and pride in it! I've paid a lot of attention to what helps people grow in their careers, relationships, personal passions, etc., and I've distilled it into a simple formula: Growth Velocity = Value x Visibility x Volume Value = how much your action matters to yourself, the other party, or the goal at hand Visibility = how much your action is seen Volume = how many times you are doing the action To put this formula into practice, consider a task/project at hand and the related goal, and give each variable a 1 through 5 (5 being the best). The higher the number, the better the choice. Real personal example: I want to become a well-respected thought leader/speaker on marketing, leadership, and personal/professional development to further empower others (goal), so I'm evaluating what opportunities I should accept or seek out (task). Value:
Volume:
Think of your own goals, then overlay this formula onto the available actions you can take! (Note: you NEED all three V’s to move the ball forward.)
And we know how math works. If one variable equals 0, all cancel out to 0. So there you have it: my personal growth formula! GV = V3 I use it every day to determine where I should be investing my time, energy, and talents. And it’s helped. A lot. I hope it helps you too. See you next Thursday, Steppers. We will succeed, Grayson P.S. Cherish the present and love yours a little louder today. Rest in Peace, Dean Perez. Thank you for everything. You will be missed. Song of the Week:
Tame Impala dropped his album Deadbeat last week, and I've been absolutely grooving. While I enjoy every track, I picked Ethereal Connection because it vividly, emotionally, nostalgically transports me back to a downtown metro vinyl bar - specifically Miami Sound Bar and Austin's Equipment Room. The House bassline, droning melody, climbing high hats, Kevin's echoing vocals. This is why music is important. It creates spaces in our minds for us to go to. |

Vol. 11: The Power of Thanks Friendsgiving at Cafe Bella Today's all about giving thanks. There's so much power in that mindset. Thankfulness. An "attitude of gratitude," as the Boomers call it (shoutout Zig Ziglar). But it's true. Poising your mind to be in a state of thankfulness is so, so powerful. Gratitude puts you in a positive headspace, reducing fears or negativity. It makes you more present and aware, pulling you from the future's "what if's" or the past's "why's." It reduces...
Vol. 10: If This Isn't the Time of My Life, Then When Is? This made me pause. This was the ending screen at EDEN's concert, and it's been a motto around his recent album DARK. It relates to one of my biggest struggles: constantly focusing on what's next and often forgetting to appreciate the present. If this isn't the time of my life, then when is? It's so easy to get caught up in the pursuit: Living for the weekend Attaining the next promotion or award Chasing that next PR I struggle with...
Vol 9: The Myth of Youthful Energy My actual calendar from last week Last week was a whole month. Literally the busiest week of my year. A productive, fun, meaningful busy - but busy nonetheless. It made me think about how people say they appreciate someone's "youthful energy" when the other person is doing a lot, and that's always stuck with me, but not in the way those people intend. "Youthful energy" is a myth. Putting myself in these shoes: I know people older than me who are working...
